About Us

I have been baking and making cakes for about 5 years now and started a commercial kitchen in my home. I just enjoy baking and only use the most delicious recipes I have had throughout my life. I am a licensed baker who taught herself the craft of cake decorating and am still learning endless ways to stay one step ahead of my competitors.

I graduated from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1997 and worked as a Graphic Designer for 6 years. I decided to stay home with my 2 children and starting getting creative with their birthday cakes. Friends and family then started asking me to make their cakes.

Alas, Cakes by Karen is born! My husband Brad and I work together to come up with the best ideas and prices for our customers. I put my heart and soul into every cake and work with your budget to make the most 'creatively different' cakes you can find in Upstate NY. All my customers are super creative as well, and that makes this job even more fun! I thrive on customer satisfaction and make that my number 1 priority!

You have no idea what it feels like to see your customers face when they see their cake. Sometimes it can get frustrating defying gravity, but 9 times out of 10 the reaction we get from people makes it all worth it! Thanks to ALL my customers for allowing me to make you smile!!!!
